Clear Wax 500ml £8.95
The soft clear wax is the consistency of margarine so it’s incredibly easy to apply. It is completely colourless so will only enhance the colour of your paint, making it appear more rich but will not change the colour. It has very little odour so even applying it in an enclosed small space is not a problem. And it is water repellent so, if applied correctly, can be used to protect dining tables and kitchens. It can be applied with a lint free cloth such as an old t shirt or sheet, a sponge or ideally with an Annie Sloan Wax Brush. We like to use the brush to apply it then wipe off the excess and buff using a lint free cloth. It should be applied in the same way as you would moisturise your hands, so that all the wax is absorbed by the paint and not left sitting on the surface. Ideally you need to build up two or three layers of the wax to offer a good level of protection, but this will change dependent upon how much use the surface you are waxing will get. We tend to allow three or four layers for high use areas such as table tops and chairs and two or three on sides of pieces, which maybe won’t get wiped or knocked as much. To build up the layers apply the first layer with the brush or cloth, allow at least a couple of hours before applying the next layer and so on. After your final layer of wax, allow at least 24 hours for the wax to begin to cure before ‘buffing’ the surface vigorously with a lint free cloth to give the piece a finished, polished look. You can also use 000 wire wool to buff the surface to give a very polished smooth finish. You can also add Chalk Paint® to Clear Wax to make a coloured wax! If you are distressing your piece by sanding then we recommend applying the wax before

The Annie Sloan range comprises of two types of soft wax; the clear and the dark and also a matt lacquer. We often get asked about why the paint needs sealing, whether it’s best to use wax or varnish and how to apply the wax, so here is a little advice on how and when we would use these products and, from our experience, how to achieve the best results. We are more than happy to demo these techniques when you come in to buy paint so don’t be afraid to ask!
Chalk Paint® is a water-
you sand. This do two things; it allows greater control over how much you distress the piece and it also reduces the amount of dust you will produce when sanding. We would work in small areas-
Dark Wax 500ml £8.45
The Soft Dark Wax is great for ageing a piece of furniture or to pick out detailing. It is exactly the same consistency as the clear and should always be used on top of the clear wax and never on its own. Using the clear wax first enables you to control how much dark wax you build up and the final look of the piece. If you find, for example, that you’ve applied too much dark wax then, providing you have clear wax underneath, you can simply apply a little more clear and like a magic eraser, it will remove the dark wax! We would apply the dark wax with an Annie Sloan brush as this allows you to concentrate it in the detailing of the piece or in certain areas where the furniture would naturally age more, giving it an antique look. Once you have applied it using the brush, you can buff it straight away with a cloth which will remove quite a lot and leave a subtle finish or you can leave the Dark Wax to start to cure for a while before you buff, which will leave you with a more striking finish. Dark Wax is one of our favourite things to use and there are endless finishes that you can achieve by playing around with it. You can make it less brown by adding a little Old White Chalk Paint® or make an almost black wax by adding a little Aubusson Blue. It also looks amazing when used alone on bare wood. And if you want to breathe a new lease of life into an old wooden piece without painting then you can simply give the piece a light sand and use the dark wax alone. You can even mix the Dark and Clear Wax to create your preferred tone!

Lacquer Varnish 1Litre £24.95 (brush not included)
This has been designed to use instead of the wax when applying Chalk Paint® to wooden or concrete floors. It is extremely durable. We advise using at least a couple of coats for maximum protection. We have used this on the floor of our workshop, which receives a lot of footfall and are yet to see any areas where the lacquer has not completely protected the Chalk Paint®. The finish is matt but with a slight sheen, which is needed as shiny finishes offer greater protection generally.
